Assessment Development Centre
Knowledge-driven organizations today have recognized that competency has to be strategically managed. Structured competency frameworks to make a range of decisions regarding professional and developmental potential are being used by organizations. Assessment Development Centers are being increasingly used for selection of employees, placement, potential appraisal, promotion, career & succession planning, development of employees and analyzing the training needs of the organizations.
The Assessment Development Center technique consists of well-integrated set of tests, exercises, simulations, instruments and focused interviews used to measure the competencies of individuals. The data generated through the above process is extremely beneficial for any of the purposes mentioned above.
IDBI Staff College, along with the HR Department, IDBI Ltd. took a major initiative and carried out an Assessment & Development Centre (ADC) exercise for addressing the developmental needs of Assistant General Managers in IDBI through competency mapping. The broad objective of this exercise was capacity building of the AGMs to handle their present responsibilities and prepare them to shoulder responsibilities in a transformed set up. Between April to August 2002, a total of 275 AGMs were covered under this exercise. Profiles indicating the officers’ strengths and areas requiring improvement in terms of the competencies were prepared and distributed to the AGMs. IDBI Staff College, as a follow-up of the assessment process, designed and developed a six-day intensive training program (Competency Development Program) to address the identified developmental needs. Training of the AGMs is in progress.
